Three Pines Review
Just started watching on Amazon Prime. Looks interesting. I like the main character’s thought process. I am hoping that the final plot does not end up as predictable as it is looking after the first show. I am a little tired of the Canadian indigenous school as a horror show meme — that is a mean-spirited accusation which so far I have seen no factual evidence for, and plenty of evidence against.
Finished the first season. I am a bit disappointed. I did enjoy the characters. But generally, the plot was a regurgitation of standard anti-colonialism. It was dark and not too many characters had a redemptive arc. There were three main themes: (a) all native Americans were more righteous than the other characters; (b) all the evil eventually traces to bad cops, of which it implies that there are many; and (c) everyone is a little corrupt or damaged. It’s just a depressing message. But the acting was good and the comedic moments were well done. In summary, the season was entertaining but not my thing. Let me know in the comments if you feel differently.
